Beware Bloggers! Niche blogging can put you in trouble

MHADA (Mumbai Housing and Area Development Authority) an apex public body in Maharshtra, primarily involve in constructing and selling housing to low and middle income groups in urban and semi-urban areas. One of enthusiastic blogger Theman (27), from Haryana, who holds a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree, created a website on MHADA lottery system which was providing all important information. - A niche blog on MHADA lottery system.

But MHADA officials learnt this as fake website which is claiming to be the website for Mhada lottery and could be cheating people, who intended to apply for the lottery.  They filed a police case and a probe was launched by the  Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) - Mumbai cyber police,

MHADA officials added that the accused had created the bogus website to earn money by getting maximum hits or visits on the website.

Its believed that Theman was getting $125150 every day from Google Adsense.

Joint commissioner of police, crime, Atul Kulkarni said that Theman had a good job but he quit it to start his own web-designing business. At the same time, he would make fake sites to earn a quick buck.  Thevariya was very fast and good at this work. He lost no time to upload the lottery results from the Mhada website on to his fake website. Mhada had reported a fake website, www.mhadalottery2015.in, to the cyber crime police station in Bandra Kurla Complex on April 13. 
 The website is currently pulled off but following the screen from Google's cache.


Based on his IP Address, the cyber cell police had identified his location as Haryana. A team then left for Haryana to trace him. Meanwhile, the youth read online news reports about the Mumbai police investigating such a case and realised he would be caught.

Thevariya landed in Mumbai by a flight on Thursday and called the police around 12.30 pm, where he lied that he had information about the accused. He was asked to come to the police station and was placed under arrest.

In 2014 - Last year, MHADA has lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell against those who have created a fake MHADA website. It was also noticed that fake lottery waiting lists are being published on the website, www.mhada.net.
